Punctal plug is a small device inserted into the tear duct of an eye to block the duct. They are used as a solution to dry eyes. At first a temporary plug can be inserted. They are dissolvable and made up of collagen. Permanant plugs are made up of silicone.
Risk factors are very little compared to its benifits. The risks are the following:
eye irritation
excessive tearing
infection
