PALPEBRAL CONJUNCTIVA FOREIGN BODY

A young patient came into the clinic complaining of light sensitivity and pain in his eye.  When staining the cornea a superior abrasion was seen with associated foreign body tracks.  Examination of the everted superior lid revealed an embedded foreign body on the palpebral conjunctiva. The foreign body was removed and topical antibiotics were given with successful resolution.

SCAR FROM CORNEAL ULCER

Below is a photo of a scar resulting from a contact lens related corneal ulcer.  Corneal ulcers often appear without warning, causing extreme pain and the potential for permanent vision loss.  This is more commonly seen in patients overwearing or sleeping in their contact lenses.

CONGENITAL DISTICHIASIS

This patient has a second row of lashes.  Most of the time it is not that bothersome to the patient and it causes minimal damage to corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells. Surgery is available to destroy the follicles from which these lashes come.
