Wet macular degeneration affects your central vision. This is due to abnormal blood vessels that leak fluid or blood into region of macula.
There are visual distortions where they see lines all wavy and crooked.
decreased intensity and brightness of colors. It starts all of a sudden and then worsens rapidly.
Risk factors-
Smoking
Obesity
High blood pressure
After 50 years your at risk for Wet macular degeneration
Treatment-
photodynamic therapy - the doctor injects a medication called visudyne into the veins in the arm which travels to bloodvessels in the eye. The doctor shines the laser onto the bloodvessels and activates the visudyne. This causes the blood vessels to close hence the leaking stops.
photocoagulation- uises high energy laser beam to destroy the abnormal blood vessels under the macula. If the abnormal blood vessels are at the center of macula it's not a good option.
